Travel light to enjoy to the fullest: Our tourist minivans have spacious trunks to store travel backpacks or medium-sized suitcases during the road trip. However, for the 10 km hike along the Amazon trail, it is recommended to carry only the essentials in a 20 to 30-liter daypack.

Heavy luggage service: If you are traveling with hard-shell wheeled suitcases or very heavy luggage, an optional freight train service is available at the start of the trail to transport your bags directly to the town of Aguas Calientes, allowing you to enjoy the walk completely hands-free and comfortably.

Essential Items for the Hike via Machu Picchu Amazon Route

1. Trekking shoes with good grip: The trail surrounded by tropical vegetation can present dirt, gravel, or wet sections. Use athletic shoes or previously broken-in hiking boots to avoid blisters.

2. Protection against high-jungle climate: The weather in the Santa Teresa and Aguas Calientes area is warm and humid. It is essential to bring eco-friendly insect repellent, SPF 50+ sunscreen, a hat or cap, and a waterproof poncho for sudden rain.

3. Original documentation on hand: Keep your passport or ID document in a waterproof sleeve along with your printed Machu Picchu entry tickets. They are requested at access checkpoints and when boarding transport.
